Why: Title protection only, no licensure.
Chapter 27.1 of the Code of Virginia is a title-protection statute, not a licensing one: it says no person shall hold himself out as a dietitian or nutritionist without the stated credentials, and it leans on credentials issued elsewhere — CDR registration, a Certified Nutrition Specialist certificate, or an American Clinical Board of Nutrition diplomate. The Commonwealth issues no credential of its own, runs no application process, and seats no licensing board, so there is nothing for a compact privilege to attach to. That has not stopped anyone from trying. HB 576, filed by Delegate Glass in January 2026, would have added the compact to that same Chapter 27.1 as a new Article 2, sections 54.1-2732 through 54.1-2745. It was left in the House Health and Human Services Committee on February 18, 2026. Virginia's obstacle is the licensure law underneath — not the absence of anyone willing to carry the bill.
